The Green Kickers have been called for the South Asian event that takes place in December and will include team such as Maldives and Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka’s government has decided to take up the initiative of hosting a quadrangular tournament, which will include the host nation and three other countries, besides being played at the Jayathilake Sports Complex in Nawalapitiya from December 2 to 8.

Pakistan has been called up for the event, but it remains to be seen whether their foreign assets can come to their rescue considering that the competition is in between domestic leagues.

Nonetheless, the Sri Lankan ministry of sport is eager to expand their efforts and claimed that the tournament could include SAARC countries in the future.

“The tournaments of Mahinda Rajapaksa International Football Trophy will be held in the SAARC countries in the future,” the Ministry said.
