Senator Aitzaz Ahsan criticizes General Kayani’s statement

Wednesday, November 7th, 2012 1:00:33 by

Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Senator Aitzaz Ahsan on Tuesday said the army chief has no right to issue political statements.

Addressing journalists outside the Lahore High Court on Tuesday, he said that the court’s interim order was not applicatory and was similar to Article 58-2b which allows sacking elected representatives.

He said that if the government or Army did anything that was against the judiciary, people would take a stand.

He also said that the courts should only speak through just judgment and the COAS did not have the right to issue political statements.

Later, in a statement issued by the ISPR, Kayani had said that no individual or institution had the monopoly to decide what was right or wrong in defining the ultimate national interest.

He also said that the weakening of institutions and trying to assume more than one’s due role will set the country back.

Another part of the statement that came under in for particular scrutiny said, “No individual or institution has the monopoly to decide what is right or wrong in defining the ultimate national interest.”

In reply to this, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary asserted that weapons alone could no longer assure national security and that the Supreme Court was the absolute authority with regards to the national interests of state.

He noted, “Gone are the days when stability and security of the country was defined in terms of the number of missiles and tanks available at the state’s disposal.”

However, it is unclear whether the army chief was referring to his institutions past actions, or to the current situation of an increasingly assertive judiciary

I think the former. He was referring to his institutions past actions. His predecessors have enjoyed monopolies in coups.

After losing Gilani’s case in the Supreme Court, Aetezaz Ahsan is annoyed with every one. Poor soul once again has been sidelined by Mr. Zardari. With such set backs he has lost his common sense to the extent that he has failed understand the essence of a simple statement issued by the COAS.

I believe, single institution, which ever, can not stablize the country. It seem illogical to debate which institution should have the right to determine right and wrong of the country. Rather, all instution are backbone of the country. Please be aware, about your national integrity and respect. Every one should pay respect to other and remain within theit constitutional boundaries.

I AM VERY HAPPY TO READ A BOLD STATEMENT BY THE CHIEF JUSTICE. JUDICIARY SHOULD BE THE SUPREME AUTHORITY IN A COUNTRY WHERE CORRUPTION IS RAMPANT. INSTITUTIONS ARE MEANT TO STRENGTHEN THE NATION AND PROVIDING SOCIAL JUSTICE. INSTITUTIONS ARE THERE TO SERVE THE PUBLIC NOT MADE IMPOSE THEIR OWN RULES. I ADMIRE THE STATEMENT OF CHIEF JUSTICE AND FULLY SUPPORT HIM IN THIS CAUSE. WELL DONE CHIEF JUSTICE IFTIKHAR CHAUDHARY

Such a statement doesn’t suit a person like son of soil(aitzaz ahsan) who provided indian raw the list of khalistan leaders in the 1990’s & commiting a traitorship against pakistan.
