Lukas Podolski believes Arsenal can overpower Bayern Munich – Football News
Arsenal star, Lukas Podolski, believes that his side has a chance to outclass last year’s runner-up, Bayern Munich, in the last 16 stage of the UEFA Champions League.
The Gunners were paired with Bayern Munich in the last 16 duel on Thursday. They will host the first leg at the Emirates Stadium on 19th February. Arsenal will then travel to the Allianz Arena for their return fixture on 13th March.
The North London club last battled Bayern Munich seven years ago. They lost 2-3 on aggregate against the Bundesliga leaders in 2005.
Bayern Munich are currently nine points clear from second place team, Bayer Leverkusen, in Bundesliga. The German side topped the group stage after breezing past their rivals. However, there is a winter break coming which may affect the German leader’s form.
On the other hand if Gunners maintain consistency in their game, they will be at their best in the Champions League clash which is due in two months.
The Germany International, Podolski thinks Gunners have chance to beat his former side, Bayern Munich. He was quoted in an interview to the Arsenal Player:
“They played in the final in 2010 and last year. It’s a big club but we have the chance to win against Bayern Munich. They have a very good team with big players. They have Gomez up front, they have Ribery, Schweinsteiger, Philipp Lahm, Manuel Neuer. There are two matches, one at home [and] one away. Both teams have the chance to win.”
Arsenal are currently standing at number five in the Barclays English Premier League. They are just two points behind their arch-rivals, Tottenham Hotspur.
The Gunners’ arch rival, Manchester United will also face tough opponents. The Red Devils will square off against Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid.
