What a pity: MQM, PML-Q to march against own government

The Mutahida Qaumi Movement and the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) have thrown weight behind the upcoming march by Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri, who returned last month after spending five year in Canada. He spoke to an impressive and a big public rally in Lahore and announced his future plans.

The MQM, which enjoyed 10 years in government with the military dictator General ® Pervez Musharraf and the PPP, hosted Dr Qadri in Karachi on Monday. The MQM announced support to Qadri’s ‘Long March’ that he wants to lead on January 14. The PML-Q, created by Pervez Musharraf, in his military rule, also backed Qadri’s Long March.

Qadri saab says he is campaigning for healthy election reforms to stop corrupt elements from contesting elections and also to do away with the injustices the rulers have done with the people of Pakistan over the past several years. But unfortunately he has forgotten that the MQM and the PML-Q had been part of the PPP government and are even today their ministers and lawmakers are in the corridors of power. The MQM and the PML-Q say they will support Qadri’s march. But they are not ready to part ways with the PPP as their leaders do not want to give up privileges they are receiving while in power.

Some political leaders are very clever how to make the people of Pakistan fool by hollow slogans but they are mistaken to play with the sentiments of the general public now. It is unfortunate that the MQM is tarnishing its image to blindly support a mysterious march when the country is leading to general elections.

There are no two opinion about healthy reforms in the democratic system and an end to corruption and would definitely appreciate Qadri saab’s movement. But the people would happy had Qadri saab condemned the MQM and the PML-Q for the blunders they had been part in the past ten years. But Qadri saab is tight lipped about the MQM and the PML-Q and is coming heavily on the PPP and the PML-N.

And what a pity that those parties who had been fully responsible for the sufferings of the people of Pakistan for years are now talking about the reforms just to vitiate the atmosphere for the upcoming elections.

People are the real judges, let then decide whether they vote to power the MQM, PML-Q, Qadri saab or any other party.

Pakistan has a constitution, parliament, judiciary, election commission and other institutions and everything is explained in the law. Those who have reservations they can knock at the Supreme Court.

It is very easy to spend millions of rupees to attract people for the public meetings. But the real test is elections and every one will know his real worth and the public support.

The PML-Q days after it faced a crushing defeat in by-elections in Punjab last month, its leaders started accusing the consensus election commissioner. The PML-Q has the right to move the election tribunals if they think fraud was done in the polls. But no petition was filed. The PML-Q may have seen writings on walls and that is why it does not care if their approach harm the country. People in Pakistan still remember how blindly they supported Musharraf and then how they ditched him when he gone into self-exile.

The MQM enjoys clear support of the people in Karachi and no one can challenge it. The MQM says it works for the people’s rights then the people ask as to why it looks at Qadri saab, who had left Pakistan at a time when series of suicide attacks and bomb blasts were killing innocent people. Real leaders remain with their people in difficult time and not to leave them in lurch.

But now Qadri saab has returned to Pakistan and it is a good sign that he calls for reforms and end to corruption. Many support his programme and he has a good opportunity to field his own people in the elections and let the people decide who they elect?
