Power of Media: Altaf Hussain apologizes to journalists over his abusive remarks

Feeling the heat of his abusive remarks, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has extended his unconditional apology to journalists and anchor persons if they were offended by any of his words.

 

A couple of days ago, Altaf Hussain while addressing to his party workers abusive remarks about journalist community, warning him of severe actions if they didn’t change their course of actions.

 

Altaf Hussain’s remarks drew criticism from several quarters including media persons who came down hard on him seeking apology from the MQM chief for his words.

 

Altaf Hussain in an apologetic statement said, “I take my words back and seek unconditional apology to journalists and anchor persons if any of my remarks has hurt their feelings.”

 

The statement added, “Derogatory remarks were issued by some senior anchor persons against some respectable leaders a couple of days ago, to which I said that the anchors should not criticize the leaders. They have right to criticize but not a right to insult anybody. However, if somebody’s feeling has been hurt by my remarks I seek unconditional apology, I respect the journalist community.”

 

Earlier on Thursday, journalist community stormed out of the Press Gallery of the Senate against the alleged threatening remarks passed by the MQM leader.

 

They said Altaf’s statement was like a slap in the face of journalist community and described it as immoral and undemocratic attitude. They told the senators they would end the proceedings boycott only if MQM tenders apology on the issue.

 

On this, Senator Mushahid said that the media was more daring and courageous than politicians and was a strong pillar of democracy. He urged the media persons to return to the gallery, as they would talk to MQM senators in this connection.
