Morne Morkel, the South African fast bowler, is geared up for the series against Pakistan and believes that the visitors are likely to give a tough time to the Proteas.

The first Test of the three-match series starts today at Johannesburg. Two T20s and five One Day Internationals (ODIs) will follow the three-match Test series.

A number of sporting pundits are expecting this battle to be a mouth-watering one, although the hosts are going to start as clear favourites. South Africa are a much balanced unit in all departments of the game as compared to the Green Shirts.

Graeme Smith and company have been playing some extra-ordinary cricket over the last couple of years, beating England in England and Australia in Australia, to be crowned as the world’s number one ranked Test team of the world.

Morkel believes that that his team must not be complacent against a dangerous side like Pakistan and said that starting the series positively will be extremely crucial. The lanky pacer has immense confidence on the South African bowling attack and claims that he along with Dale Steyn and Vernon Philander are ready to dismantle Pakistan.

“I think it’s important that we start off well, whenever we have the ball in hand. We have done very well so far as bowling unit, we have done well by landing the first punch as a bowling unit and we would like to keep going,” the tall fast bowler expressed.

Misbah-ul-Haq and company have been playing some very good cricket over the last two and a half years. Morkel has a lot of respect for Pakistan’s recent performances in international cricket but feels that the visitors are a touch underprepared for the Test series, having played just one practice match before the initial fixture.

He added, “Pakistan are playing very well, they had success against England and we know they’re a very dangerous team. We respect our opponents and we really expect a tough challenge from Pakistan. For any touring team I think they got one warm up game, they will be under pressure.”
