Kahn believes in Wiese’s ability

The former Germany international feels the Hoffenheim goalkeeper has been mishandled by his trainers and has been unfairly criticised for the Bundesliga outfit’s poor form this term.

Former Germany and Bayern Munich custodian Oliver Kahn has urged Tim Wiese to pick himself up following a tragedy in his club career as Hoffenheim snapped up Heurelho Gomez from English Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur to replace the Germany international in goal.

The 2002 FIFA World Cup runner-up feels that Tim has been used as a scapegoat for his side’s results this season, and he said that goalkeepers are mistreated if they make a mistake or two. He claimed that in hard times you should alienate the keeper and publicly encourage him to pick up his game.

“In difficult times you need to isolate the goalkeeper position and give interviews to build their confidence. To quarrel brings nothing,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.

“The goalkeeping job has never been fair. One would wish Tim Wiese to accept this challenge and emerge from this situation stronger than before. Because in football, it goes on and on,” he added.

“Marco Kurz and [sporting director] Andreas Muller claimed that they would protect the people of the area by fighting relegation but it looks like they are doing the exact opposite,” he mused.

“Especially in situations where you stand as a player under attack and have low morale, you need the special support and trust of coaches and club,” the former Germany national team captain finally concluded.

Kahn stated that shot-stopping job is very critical. On the other hand, Marko Kurz’s team are placed in relegation zone in the league and have conceded more goals than all the other sides. The retired goalkeeper believes that Hoffenheim should have trusted Wiese a little bit more than to find a replacement.
