Guru’s hanging attack on collective conscience of Kashmiris: APHC

The All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC) has strongly condemned the hanging of Muhammad Afzal Guru and described the incident as an attack on the collective conscience of the Kashmiris.

 

The APHC in a statement issued in Srinagar urged the people of Kashmir to observe four-day mourning and demand for shifting the dead body of Afzal Guru so that he could be buried in accordance with the Islamic teachings.

 

The statement said that the execution of Afzal Guru was linked to coming general elections in India, adding that the shedding of Kashmiris’ blood for victory in the polls was not acceptable to the Kashmiris.

 

The APHC leadership, which has been detained, expressed profound grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Afzal Guru and showed sympathy with the bereaved family, the statement said.

 

On the other hand, APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who is in New Delhi, on hearing the news of Guru’s execution, tried to leave for Srinagar, but Indian police did not allow him to leave his residence and took his mobile phone into their custody.

 

Meanwhile the All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC), Azad Jammu and Kashmir chapter and the forum patronised by the veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, AJK chapter have expressed serous concern over the execution of Muhammad Afzal Guru and termed it a judicial murder.

 

APHC-AJK in a hurriedly called meeting with Mehmood Ahmad Saghar in chair in Islamabad on Saturday expressed sympathy with the bereaved family.

 

The participants of the meeting said that the hanging of Afzal Guru was an attack on the collective conscience of Kashmiris and demanded handover of his dead body to his relatives so that it could be buried in the Muslims’ graveyard in Kashmir,

 

The meeting also denounced the enforcement of curfew in the occupied territory and arrest of Hurriyet leadership and termed it frustration of the Indian government and its puppet administration. They said that India had been claiming to the largest democracy but actually it massacring innocent Kashmiri people.

 

On the other hand, the forum in its meeting chaired by its convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi in Islamabad castigated the India’s judicial system and said that Guru’s judicial murder was conducted to win next elections.
