Geared up to make a strong comeback at the international level, Umar Amin, the young left-handed batsman from Pakistan, has admitted that he was nervous on his debut in 2010 but claims to have improved immensely since then.

The cricketer from Rawalpindi came through the ranks of junior sport in the country, having represented Pakistan in the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2008 in Malaysia. Amin is considered to be one of the most naturally gifted players in the country, having the ability to play his strokes to all parts of a ground.

The 23-year-old cricketer made his Test debut in 2010 during the controversial tour of England. The youngster got four matches to prove his credentials against England and Australia but he failed to make an impression.

Amin expressed that he was not confident enough at the time of his debut and the problems faced by the national team on that tour did not make things easy for him.

He said, “I was very nervous on my test debut. I played my first match under Shahid bhai during tense times of Pakistan cricket. We lost that match and I got under immense pressure as I didn’t perform well.”

The youngster however, has performed exceptionally well in the on-going domestic season and was selected in the T20 team for the tour of India; however, the left-hander came back without playing a match.

He vows to cement his place in the team as soon as he gets another opportunity to showcase his skills.

“I have improved a lot since I first burst into the international scene. My domestic performances are the proof of my ability. I have also improved a bunch on my fitness. I am hopeful of capitalizing on any opportunity that is given to me this time,” Amin claims.

While talking about his fitness, he expressed that he has been working extremely hard and understands the requirements of professional sport.

The budding cricketer added, “I am following a complete fitness schedule and have appointed a trainer for that purpose. I have been advised speed and agility exercises by my trainer.”
