Major League Baseball Update/ News

The current Detroit Tigers skipper Jim Leyland finally spoke to the media about his potential decision on leaving the game. According to the statement Leyland gave, he is not considering taking retirement yet.

“I’m not retiring, whether we win or we don’t win. Now, they (owner Mike Ilitch and general manager Dave Dombrowski) might have a different thought, but it won’t be mine. I feel good, I like what I do, I have no intention of retiring. I don’t plan on retiring anytime soon. I don’t know about years, but I know I’m not ready to go home. I love what I do,” Leyland said.

He added, “You know what, if I went out tomorrow, I wouldn’t care how any of you guys felt, I would feel like I went out on top. I was a backup Double A catcher who hit (bleeping) .222. I’ve managed in the big leagues 22 years, with a world title, division titles, American League championships. Now, what the (heck)?

Earlier at the end of 2012 Major League Baseball, speculations mounted in the media that the 2013 season will be his last. However, for the first time, Leyland answered all those people who speculated his retirement and made clear that he will not be retiring soon.

Leyland is considered one of the top Major League managers currently active. He started his MLB career from the Pittsburgh Pirates and later went onto manage the Florida Marlins, Colorado Rockies and Detroit Tigers.

His offensive game approach has honoured him with two National League Manager of the year awards. In 1997, with the Marlins, he helped them win even the World Series title.

Currently with the Tigers, he is considered one of the top men who are behind Detroit’s consistent numbers in the regular as well as in the post season.

His latest comments in the media about his potential retirement are certainly morale boosting. The Tigers will be so much pleased to know that their skipper is not going anywhere and will lead them in another championship.
