Arsenal crush Reading to stay in contention for fourth spot – Football News

Arsene Wenger’s men displayed flawless skills to outgun Nigel Adkin’s side at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. They recorded a fantastic 4-1 victory against Reading and stayed in contention to grab the fourth spot and a chance to play next year’s UEFA Champions League.

Nigel Adkin was managing Reading for the first time but it was not his day as Gunners went berserk. Gervinho played his best and led the Gunners up in the 11th minute after tapping in from close range with a pass from Santo Cazorla. The scores stayed the same during the end of the first half.

Arsenal lifted their game in the second half. Santi Cazorla was the one who netted the ball with Gervinho returning the favour. It was not long when Olivier Giroud led his side to an unassailable lead of 3-0. Gervinho set up this goal as well.

However, two minutes late Reading snatched a goal back when Robson-Kanu headed the goal from a corner. In the 77th minute, Gunners were awarded penalty after Mariappa brought down Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Mikel Arteta took the penalty and eventually sealed the victory for Arsenal with a 4-1 score line.

Arsenal’s tactician Arsene Wenger was quoted in a post match press conference:

“We enjoyed the game. I enjoyed our technical side, our creative side, our spirit and how disciplined and focused we were. The regret you have is that there were more goals in this game than the number of goals we scored. Overall, it’s a good basis to finish the season well. Let’s just keep that spirit, that attitude and play the football we want to play. Gervinho’s performance was very strong. He was always dangerous. He always looked like he could score. He gave assists and scored.”

Arsenal will face off West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.
