Ballot papers’ printing in final stage, says Secretary ECP

Secretary Election Commission Ishtiak Ahmad Khan Sunday said that printing of one hundred and eighty million ballot papers is in progress and so far one hundred and fifty million ballot papers have been printed.

He told a news conference that printing and dispatch of ballot papers for Balochistan and Sindh have been completed.

Printing of ballot papers for Khyber Pakhtunkhawa except Peshawar and Mardan divisions have been completed. Printing of ballot papers for these two divisions will be completed tomorrow.

Out of 9 divisions‚ printing of ballot papers for 5 divisions of Punjab has been completed. Remaining printing will be completed by day after Tuesday.

Replying to a question regarding electronic ballot‚ he said it will facilitate the people as mobile phone is easily accessible to all. He said there is a possibility that mobile phone service may be suspended due to security threat on 11 May‚ therefore the voters should get their voter information in advance.

He told a questioner that it is not possible for ECP to arrange transport for voters.

He said the issue of granting voting rights to overseas Pakistanis will be considered on Monday in the Commission’s meeting. He said security is being provided to ECP staff in all the provinces.

When asked about the confiscation of fake ballot papers in Chakdara area of Lower Dir‚ he said we have sought information from the police and any decision in this regard will be made after ascertaining all the facts.

He said a total 313 complaints have been received regarding change of polling stations, adding that the concerned District Returning Officers have been asked to address these complaints. He said the complainants have been asked to contact the respective DROs tomorrow in this regard.

He said details of complaints and the respective District Returning Officers have been put on the Commission’s website.
