US Department of Defence plans next generation Unmanned Aircraft

The US DoD (Department of Defence) has released its plan for the next generation of unmanned aircrafts which show that military drones will be carrying strong chemical weapons.

According to reports and the USIR (Unmanned Systems Integrated Roadmap), US is planning technology for the next 25 years and drones of the future will be outfitted with better navigational equipment and sensors. Autonomous systems are also under development, giving drones the capability of making strategic decisions in missions.

The new roadmap reveals that drones can be hunting in swarms and making their own decisions in the coming 25 years.

Efforts to give drones a semblance of intelligence are aimed at reducing the need for expensive and intensive on-ground manpower which is required for flying the drones. If the drones become autonomous to a large extent, the DoD will be able to cut down on a lot of expenditure.

Currently UAVs follow strict commands and point-to-point navigational instructions, but the drones of the future will be able to deviate from set objectives and make choices governed by rules and aided by algorithms, learning and sensors.

The combination of all these technologies will result in drones that are more effective and efficient along with being more cost effective.
