The current Federal Minister for Finance, Senator Ishaq Dar, recently came out in the open and spoke about how he is taking serious actions in order to stabilize the prices of potatoes in the market. He claimed that he understands that potato is a necessary and essential commodity in the market and he needs to bring down its price level to where it is appropriate.

He spoke about this incident while chairing a meeting at the Finance Ministry. The meeting’s subject was ‘agricultural products’ prices in the country and each and every member discussed how important agricultural products should come down to a stable price where people can afford them easily.

In the second meeting under the same subject, Ishaq Dar was informed about the whole process through which the Potatoes are made and how their prices are being set. It was brought to his attention that there are 1.1 million tons of surplus potatoes in the country and the prices of the commodity are only artificially manipulated.

He was also informed that in the neighbouring country, potatoes are being sold at a much lower price.

After the meeting Ishaq Dar stated that if these prices are not brought down within three days, then the taxes levied upon potatoes will be lifted so that these prices can come down.

Indian potatoes are cheaper because there government has put a framework of subsidies so that prices remain stable.

In Pakistan, the government has introduced GST on nearly every conceivable agricultural input. What is Mr Dar going to do about that?

What the article also fails to publish is that the potato farmers have had to throw there produce over the last three years because of terrible rates.

Mr Dar is an illiterate donkey who can’t understand the principal of free market.
