Pakistani Basketball Team to Miss Out on South Asian Event

With the South Asian Olympics about to take place, the Pakistani Basketball team is not allowed to go because FIBA (International Basketball Federation) has disallowed the Pakistani local body and has sanctioned them for their illegal activities.

According to FIBA the current president of the local body PBBF (Pakistan Basketball Federation) has appointed Asif Bajwa as their president and this is illegal because he was once the head of the Pakistan Olympics Committee.

In their letter to the Pakistani basketball board, FIBA have written, “This Interim Committee is not recognized by the IOC. Much to our regret, we have also been informed that this illegal interim committee is headed by President of the Pakistan Basketball Federation, Asif Bajwa.”

However, on the other hand, the Pakistani basketball federation representatives have claimed that they have written back to FIBA and they are still awaiting a reply. According to a spokesperson, “I have written a letter to Fiba, providing them details about the team, but they haven’t responded yet.  Fiba’s suspension is baseless; they did not give us any show-cause notice prior to suspending our federation.”

Pakistani Basketball team is now going to wait for FIBA’s reply, which is most likely to take place after the South Asian event is already over.
