Pervez Musharraf

Pakistan Supreme Court on Monday overturned the ruling of the Sindh High Court and accepted the appeal against the decision that asked government to remove former president Pervaiz Musharraf’s name from the exit control list (ECL) after 15 days. Federal government filed appeal to overrule the decision.

Government argued in the Supreme court that Pervaiz Musharraf is the only person nominated in the treason case which is pending in the court. Government lawyer also maintained that there are a number of other ongoing cases against the former president so his name should not be removed from the exit control list before the cases are decided.

The name of Musharraf will now remain on exit control list and he will not be allowed to travel abroad. Pervez Musharraf had earlier also asked the interior ministry to remove his name from the ECL in the light of of the earlier decision of Sindh High Court.
