Sharapova stunned by Carla Suarez in Rogers Cup

The Spanish player Carla Suarez in Montreal (Canada), gave the big surprise of the day in the third round of Rogers Cup by beating Russia’s Maria Sharapova, fourth seeded, 6-2, 4-6 and 6-2 after 2 hours and 22 minutes and 40 balls break.

Grancanaria took the second match point that decided to defeat Sharapova, in a match that was suspended twice by rain, and while avenged the loss on Wednesday, her compatriot and doubles partner Garbiñe Muguruza.  “It was a tough match,” Sharapova said. “I couldn’t find my rhythm from the beginning of the match,” said Sharapova after committing 49 unforced errors.  “I always had my back against the wall, always had to come back.” closed

In another match of the day the Danish Caroline Wozniacki, seeded eleventh, qualified for the quarter, beating the American Shelby Rogers 6-1, 6-0.
