At least 16 people have died after the roof of Hanfia Mosque in Nishtar Town Lahore collapsed during Zuhar prayer on Tuesday September 9, 2014. Rescue teams fear the number of deaths may be higher.
Rescue teams are engaged in rescue efforts to remove the trapped persons under the rubles of the collapsed mosque. The minaret of the mosque fell on the roof of the mosque when the people started the Zhuhar prayer. The roofs of the second and first floors also fell on the persons praying in the mosque at that time.
The injured have been shifted to the nearby hospitals for medical treatment. It is feared that death toll may rise as many people are stilled trapped under the derbies.
Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif visited the site of the accident and offered Rs 5 lakh to the relatives of the each person who died in the tragic incident.
