Imran Khan Calls For “Correct Combination” And “Merit-Based Selection”

After Pakistan’s national cricket team suffered a five-wicket defeat from Bangladesh, which disqualified them from the Asia Cup T20 title race, Imran Khan renowned ex-cricketer, and current politician, commented that the country’s cricket team has “enough talent” but there was a need to get the team combination right.

He emphasized on the necessity for the appointment of board members in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to be based on “merit

“This talent can only be polished if PCB becomes an institution built on merit, [including] selection of its head purely on merit,” he said.

Khan went on to say, “But how can we expect [Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif] to select PCB chief on merit when all [organisations] are being headed by people rewarded for services to Sharif.”

Pakistan has managed to secure a match against India in Sunday’s final, a great achievement considering their defeat from 28-4 posted 129-7. They came close to success after the 18th over, right before Bangladesh made a total victory of 131-5.

“Pakistani cricket fans anger at unceremonious exit of Pakistan team From T20 Asia Cup is understandable as our nation is oozing with talent,” Khan

Pakistan performed poorly against India last week and the entire team drooped to a scanty 83 all out.

The total was insufficient for a concrete Indian batting line-up even though Mohammad Amir executed a sizzling opening. India came out victorious by five wickets.

To this point, Pakistan’s only victorious match was with the United Arab Emirates on Feb. 29. They are to confront Sri Lanka on March 4th.
