Earlier this week, a girl from Murree was rushed to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Studies (PIMS) hospital in Islamabad, for being badly burnt. The girl named Maria, was a school teacher in Murree and apparently someone had set her on fire, causing 85% burns on her body.
After staying in the hospital for two days, Maria succumbed to her injuries and passed away. When Maria was brought in, the doctors had already informed her family that it would be a miracle if she survives.
Now it has been learnt that the person responsible for setting her on fire is a man named Shaukat. Police arrested Master Shaukat because he set Maria on fire for rejecting his son’s proposal.
According to the details provided, Master Shaukat had asked for Maria’s proposal for his son, but she had refused. The reason Maria did not agree for the marriage was that it was going to be the man’s second marriage, and she did not agree to the idea of becoming a second wife.
Before Maria died, she recorded her statement to the police, in which she claimed that her parents had gone to a nearby village and she was alone at home with her younger sister. She said that during that time, Master Shuakat forced himself in her house along with four other accomplices, and started beating her. He ultimately doused her in petrol and set her on fire, before fleeing the scene.
Now Shaukat will be tried in the court and hopefully justice will be served.
