PTI wants Doraemon banned in Pakistan, passes resolution in Punjab assembly

Members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf passed a resolution in the Punjab Assembly on Wednesday, asking for a ban on Japanese cartoon series Doraemon. The move startled a lot of people as they consider other things more important rather than some kids’ cartoons.

However, PTI legislator Malik Taimoor Masood explained his party’s stance on the move saying that these cartoons contain explicit content which has a bad impact on children. He urged Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra)to impose ban on Doraemon so that our future generations can be saved from moral degradation.

Doraemon is dubbed in Hindi and aired in Pakistan and India in Hindi rather than English. Masood also argued that 24-hour cartoon channels are adversely affecting the educational and physical growth of children. He said that children watch these cartoons unsupervised and parents do not even know what they are watching.

The resolution was passed today and it will be discussed in the next Punjab Assembly session.

There were mixed reviews from public regarding this resolution. While most of the people criticized the move, terming it as unimportant, there were others who thought this this was a step in the right direction.

PTI is not the only party which has raised concerns over the content of this famous Japanese anime series. Earlier this year, Ashish Chaturvedi, an Indian who previously unearthed India’s biggest educational scam, voiced concerns against Doraemon and another Japanese cartoon by the name of Shin Chan.

Chaturvedi argued that both these cartoons are ‘violent’ and that they are grappling a whole generation of kids across India and the world at large.
