A 35-year-old woman was killed, while her husband got injured in Lines Area on Sunday afternoon during an attempted robbery. The people of the vicinity believed the incident to be an attempted kidnapping case, as the woman was also carrying a six-months-old baby. However, the police claim that the incident was a robbery attempt.

People in Karachi have been under a state of panic since news of children’s kidnapping made rounds. Despite officials’ attempts to calm people down, there seems to be an upsurge in people’s apprehensions.

According to the details of the latest incident provided by a police official, the woman, identified as Aqeela Aman, was carrying her child and was walking with her husband when the family got intercepted by two men wearing masks. The suspects tried to snatch her bag but when Aqeela resisted, they shot her and fled with the looted cash. The child remained safe in the incident.

Immediately after the shooting, Aqeela was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center, where she died after being unable to sustain her injuries. Her husband was also injured during the incident, but thankfully he survived.

After the incident, residents of Preedy Street came out and started protesting over the incident, claiming it to be a kidnapping attempt. The residents burnt tyres, hurled stones at passing vehicles and blocked the road for several hours.

However, police sources claim that this incident occurred due to a family dispute. Aqeela had reportedly sold off one of her properties and was carrying Rs. 400,000 in a purse. Her brother-in-law knew about this and wanted his share so he orchestrated this robbery.

The suspects are still at large and police are on a lookout for them.

Meanwhile people have been advised to remain calm and not misinterpret an incident further spreading panic in the city.
