Veteran actor Om Puri passes away at 66

Legendary Indian actor Om Puri passed away on early Friday morning and the entire world of entertainment is grieving over his death.

Om Puri passed away in the early hours of Friday morning due to a massive heart attack. He was 66-years-old.

Since news of his death hit the airwaves, condolences have been pouring in from the world over. His friends, family members and colleagues from Bollywood also reached his Andheri residence to pay their last respects to the veteran actor.

Puri’s heart attack and eventual death shocked everyone as there were no reports of his illness and he was apparently doing fine. After his death, Puri’s body was taken to Cooper hospital for postmortem after which the funeral is scheduled to take place.

Meanwhile Indian filmmaker and Puri’s close friend, Ashoke Pandit, also relayed the sad news on social media, saying; “Omji suffered from a massive heart attack in the morning today. We have just reached his residence.”

He also took to Twitter to share the news, “Sad & shocked to know that versatile actor Om Puri jee has expired due to heart attack early morning today. RIP”

Om Puri was a leading Bollywood actor back in the days and he has also starred in various Pakistani, British and Hollywood movies. The iconic actor has received an OBE as well as the Padma Shri award, which is the fourth highest award in India.

Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi also sent out a message condoling the actor’s death.

“The Prime Minister condoles the passing away of actor Om Puri & recalls his long career in theatre & films,” PMO India tweeted.

Some of Puri’s famous movies included; Bhavni Bhavai (1980), Sadgati (1981), Ardh Satya (1982), Mirch Masala (1986) and Dharavi (1992).
