The murder case of NGO worker, Hina Shahnawaz, took a surprising turn on Saturday when the prime suspect in the case, released a video message claiming his innocence. The suspect had been directly nominated in the case and now this new piece of information changes the entire course of the case.

The suspect, identified as victim’s cousin, Mehboob Alam, claimed in the video that he had not killed his cousin and instead he was being framed. Alam claimed that the real killer is someone else and that the police should catch the real culprit instead of going after him.

Earlier it was claimed by Hina’s family that Mehboob killed his cousin because she was working in an NGO and bringing ‘dishonor’ to the family. However, Mehboob said that he had no problems with Hina working and that there were several other female members of his family doing jobs, adding that his own sister was a school teacher.

According to Mehboob, Hina’s family was trying to trap him for protecting the real killer. However, he did not reveal who the real killer might be.

Hina Shahnawaz, the sole breadwinner of her family, was killed by unknown assailants on Feb 6. Hina’s sister had registered an FIR against Mehboob, due to which the police is obligated to arrest him as the complainant claims that she saw Mehboob committing the crime in front of her eyes.

When the Ustarzai police station SHO, Nazir, was contacted by media about the latest development, he said that a delegation of Mehboob’s relatives came to his office and expressed a similar view. He said that the relatives said that they could produce Mehboob to clear his position and record his statement, provided he did not get arrested. However, Nazir said that since he has been nominated in the FIR that cannot happen.

Police PRO Fazal Kareem said that they could not help the suspect unless he surrendered.
