A 21-year-old mother of an infant, was shot to death in a suspected honor killing case in Sindh’s Sanghar district on Friday.
The incident took place in a small village called Talib Chandio which lies within the limits of Shahdadpur police station in Sanghar. According to the details provided, the victim, identified as Leela Chandio was shot to death in her village by her own husband and his cousin.
The Station House Officer (SHO) Shahdadur, Riaz Ahmed Bhutto said that the initial investigations reveal that the husband and his cousin are the real culprits. They shot Leela because the husband accused her of having an affair with another man from the same village.
The two suspects, along with their families, have moved to an undisclosed location. An FIR was registered against the culprits on the complaint of the victim’s father. Police have been conducting raids on different locations in order to apprehend the criminals.
Leela’s body was handed over to her family after postmortem. Her infant is with Leela’s family as there is no one to look after him now.
While talking to some journalists, Leela’s mother, Karima Chandio said that her daughter was wrongly accused of having an affair with another man. She said that she was killed in the name of honor, so that the culprits can get away with the murder.
Every year, hundreds of women are killed in the name of honor, while the killers roam freely because of very lenient laws pertaining to honor killing.
