Domestic dispute leads to fatal shooting spree in Mississippi

Eight people, including a sheriff’s deputy, were killed in an overnight shooting spree in Lincoln County, Miss., which culminated because of a domestic dispute. The suspect of the shooting, identified as 35-year-old Willie Corey Godbolt, is in custody and investigations are still continuing to uncover all the details.

According to the details provided, the shooting happened at three separate locations in the county and as a result eight victims were killed. Even the suspect had received a gunshot wound and he was treated for it before being taken into custody.

So far it is not clear what the relationship is between Godbild and the victims and a motive also not been suggested by the authorities. However, a video published by a local news site shows Godbolt talking to reporters and explaining what had happened.

In the video, Godbolt is saying that the shooting occurred during a family dispute. Godbolt, sitting on the street with his hands cuffed behind his back, said he had been involved in a discussion with his wife and her family about their children. “I was having a conversation with her stepdaddy and her mama and her, my wife, about me taking my children home,” he said.

He said that he was sorry that the sheriff’s deputy died, blaming the people who called law enforcement. “My pain wasn’t designed for him,” he said. “He was just there.”

Godbolt added that he wanted to die. “My intentions was to have God kill me. I ran out of bullets,” he said. “Suicide by cop was my intention. I ain’t fit to live, not after what I’ve done.”

Mississippi Governor Phill Bryant termed the incident a ‘senseless tragedy’ and offered condolences to the families of the victims.
