The person behind the online suicide game called ‘Blue Whale Challenge’ which has claimed the lives of 32 teenagers so far, has been arrested by the Russian police.

The person behind this lethal game has been identified as 26-year-old postman by the name of Ilya Sidorov. The Russian authorities interrogated him and he admitted to them that he runs a ‘suicide group’ that has as many as 32 members. During questioning, Sidorov started sobbing and recounted how he instructed a school girl to ‘jump under a metro train’.

Sidorov was arrested and later transferred to the Chelyabinsk region in the Urals on the charges that he encouraged a 13-year-old girl to kill herself.

Initially, no one really knew who was behind this wave of teenagers killing themselves, but Russian authorities got they lead they wanted when a 14-year-old girl attempted suicide but failed. She later told authorities about the Blue Whale challenge.

When Sidorov was searched, five mobile phones, a tablet and several SIM cards were taken from his possession. “The suspect clarified that he is the administrator of a so-called suicide group that had 32 members, all of them under age,” an investigator told the reporters.

“He assigned them tasks aimed at injuring themselves in order to incite suicide. The suspect has been detained and taken to Chelyabinsk.”

The Blue Whale Challenge has been linked to more than 130 deaths so far. In the challenge, the group admins ask vulnerable teens to engage in activities which inflict self-harm, eventually leading to suicide.
