Seven people killed in Multan van accident

At least seven people were killed while 24 others were injured when a passenger van caught fire near Multan at a place called Head Muhammadwala. All the deceased belonged to the same family according to the details provided by the rescue officials.

According to the details provided, the van was carrying 30 people belonging from the same family. They were travelling from Chowk Munda, Layyah district and were going to Multan to pay homage to some shrines located in the city.

It has been reported that the van caught fire after hitting an electricity pole. Initially it was speculated that the van caught fire because of the gas cylinder but it was later discovered that the cylinder was intact even after the accident.

As soon as the van caught fire, all the people ran out from the vehicle. Those who died were sitting at the back and could not get out in time.

Police and rescue officals from Multan and Muzaffargarh reached the site of the accident and removed the dead and injured from the scene. They took the dead bodies to the mortuaries while the injured were shifted to the burns unit of Nishtar Hospital in Multan.

The records of the hospital showed that the injured have been identified as Tania, 14; Farah, 14; Shamshad; Saima, 14; Sonia, 15; and Shaheena, 14. The injured people also included 10 people.

Three of the injured were discharged from the hospital while 21 others are still under treatment. Out of the injured, two of them had serious burns.

All the deceased were buried in their native town of Muzaffargarh.
