Mark Zuckerberg, Priscilla Chan welcome second daughter

The co-founder of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscila Chan welcomed their second daughter earlier this month and shared the good news with the world on Monday. The couple announced the birth of their daughter through a Facebook post and a picture. The post also included a long letter written for their daughter, whom they have named August.

This is the couple’s second daughter as the first one, Maxima, was born in late 2015. Even after her birth, the parents wrote a letter to their daughter that spoke of having a better world in the days to come. In this letter however, they spoke more about the wonder of childhood and how August should revel in that instead of worrying about the world.

“You only get to be a child once, so don´t spend it worrying too much about the future,” said the letter signed by Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan.

“You´ve got us for that, and we´ll do everything we possibly can to make sure the world is a better place for you and all children in your generation.”

Zuckerberg and Chan have set up an initiative through which they have pledged billions of dollars for improving the lives of their children’s generation with goals such as eliminating diseases and increasing education.

“With all the advances in science and technology, your generation should live dramatically better lives than ours, and we have a responsibility to do our part to make that happen,” the couple wrote, referring back to a letter written to their first daughter after her birth.

“But rather than write about growing up, we want to talk about childhood. The world can be a serious place. That´s why it´s important to make time to go outside and play.”

The couple had initially struggled while having children and they opened talked about it. Before their first daughter was born, Chan already had three miscarriages.
