Afghan Taliban reject Boyle’s claims of murdering child, raping wife

Last week a US-Canadian family was rescued by Pakistani forces from the Pak-Afghan border area and now Joshua Boyle’s family has safely been transported to Canada. In an interview with officials, Boyle claimed that his captors had raped his wife and also killed one of his infant children while they were in captivity.

However, the Afghan Taliban have rejected these claims and issued a clarification in which they said that they never did any of the things which Boyle is claiming now.

A spokesperson for the Afghan Taliban, Zabihullah Mujahid told media on Sunday that they have never raped Caitlin Coleman and never parted the pair from each other for once during their five years in captivity. Mujahid also said that the infant child died during childbirth because of lack of medical facilities and they never intentionally killed her.

“This is why the baby died during birth,” he said. “If we had killed her, why are the rest of the children still alive?”

Mujahid further said that they have a long history of jihad and strict rules which prohibit the comrades from committing such acts. “We have taken many foreigners hostage during our operations in the country and in the last three decades, but we have never allowed our commanders to violate the rule of jihad,” he said.

“We have harsh rules for all commanders, foot soldiers and followers – never endanger the life of minors, women and those who left their women during the fight,” he said, adding that Boyle’s claims were “baseless”.

Mujahid further claimed that the group had never raped any woman or man in their custody or hostages meant to be exchanged for Taliban prisoners “We strongly reject the claims of the hostage recently freed from the custody of the Haqqani network,” he added.

Mujahid said that whatever Boyle is saying is part of an ‘evil design’ according to which they are trying to defame the mujahideen and their struggle.
