African woman in Dubai bites policeman’s hand when asked for ID

An African woman who was staying illegally in Dubai, reportedly bit an officer’s hand after he asked for her identification card.

According to the details provided, a 24-year-old Ugandan woman was stopped by police officers in the Naif area, but she refused to cooperate with them. The incident took place on October 24, when the officer was present with three other officers, including a female corporal.

The Court of First Instance heard the case and is expected to come up with a judgment soon.

“I admit I showed resistance and assaulted him but I had no idea they were police officers,” the defendant told the court. She claimed before the presiding judge she thought she was being harassed then.

The policeman who was assaulted told the prosecutor: “It was before 10am when I was on duty as a member of a security task force assigned with looking for and catching wanted individuals and suspects. There were also two lieutenants and a female corporal walking around with me in Freej Iyal Nasser. We spotted the defendant and got suspicious of her activities.

“We stopped her to check whether she had a legal status here and showed her our police IDs. But she fiercely resisted and bit me in my right wrist. I had to go to the hospital to get treated for the injury.”

A police lieutenant said the woman was referred to the Naif police station after she assaulted the other cop. “She would not obey our order to produce her ID. She then bit his hand.”

In addition to assaulting the officer, the defendant also admitted that she was overstaying in the UAE with an expired visa.

A ruling in the case will be pronounced on January 30 next year.
