Man resembling Zainab’s killer arrested from Lahore

A man resembling the rape-murder suspect of seven-year-old girl Zainab, has been arrested from Lahore. The man was arrested due to his resemblance with the prime suspect whose face has been captured on CCTV footage.

According to the details provided, the man was held from Bhatta Chowk in Lahore earlier this week and he has been handed over to the Kasur authorities. The Kasur authorities have also informed that the Lahore police is providing them with all the assistance in the case.

Police officials revealed that the suspect’s mobile phone location shows that he was in Kasur. The suspect has been handed over to the Kasur police who are now going to conduct a DNA analysis.

Zainab was kidnapped from her aunt’s place in Kasur on January 4. Five days after her disappearance, her body was found in a trash dump. Post-mortem report revealed that she had been raped before being killed.

Till now Zainab’s murderer has not been captured and the Supreme Court (SC) has shown immense displeasure over the performance of the police. During proceedings on January 16, Punjab additional inspector general (AIG) and advocate general (AG) appeared before the court.

Addressing the officials, the chief justice remarked that no significant progress in the case was visible so far, adding that “you can inform us in our chambers if need be”. “If the issue isn’t solved then it’ll be a failure of the government and police,” the chief justice added.

The civil society has also come forward demanding justice in Zainab’s case and proposed awarding exemplary punishments to such criminals so that such heinous incidents can be avoided in the future.
