A cleric from Islamabad has been arrested by the police for behaving inappropriately towards a 12-year-old foreigner. A case has also been registered against the cleric after the parents of the victim complained against him.

According to the details provided, the cleric reportedly physically harassed the Filipino child—details of when and how the harassment took place were not shared.

The accused cleric was arrested from a hotel in Khannapul area of Islamabad where he was staying. He will be taken to the court for hearing under tight security.

“The boy belongs to the Philippines and our embassy in Pakistan has also asked us to come in and talk to them about the case,” the father of the victim told the media.

Meanwhile the cleric, identified as Qari Aslam, has confessed to the crime and even expressed remorse over it. He asked the family for forgiveness and vowed not to repeat this mistake again.

Another incident of child abuse took place in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Harripur area where an officer of the elite force raped and blackmailed a 15-year-old boy.

The victim recorded his statement with the police in which he told them that the officer, Shehzad, repeatedly raped him and even recorded the act on one occasion. The officer would later blackmail the boy and threaten to kill him if he told anyone.

Ever since the rape and murder case of Zainab was reported from Kasur, there has been an increased awareness among people regarding child abuse.
