Bumbu Sauce is going ‘Mojambo’

And they say their band’s label is amusing – but wait till you hear the names of the whiz kids behind the whole concept of Islamabad’s, punk rock band ‘Bumbu Sauce’, an imposing collaboration, built on Colonel Bumbu on guitar and vocals, Master Jee on guitar, Jeevay Lal on the bass and Zakoota on drums.

Although the band recently cropped up on the Capital city and the nation’s mainstream music scene, but, the whole idea of Bumbu Sauce kicked off in the mid 90s, when the whole of Islamabad was still a sleepy Margallah Hills town; while Colonel, Zakoota and Jeevay Lal played one of their first shows at their high school library.

However, many fruitful years later, with a complete line-up of Bumbu Sauce taking a full charge, the band decided to take it all to a next level, especially when Islamabad ‘the beautiful’ became victim to the ongoing war on terrorism which ironically, led the group to bring in new material to their work.

But more followed for Colonel’s entourage, after Bumbu Sauce travelled to the tribal areas of Ontario Canada, in 2010, where they made their famed alliance with the country’s music maestro, Nick Blagona.

As for now, the band has already come out with their debut EP, under the title of Bistee Proof, and is rocking the major cities of Pakistan with their mega hit ‘Mojambo’.

In an interview held earlier this year, by the Express Tribune, Bumbu Sauce, (which is currently quite active on the internet and the radio) or be more specific, Zakoota said that the loosely described genre of his band’s music was different enough that it got a reaction instantly out of most people. Moreover, it was pleasing to see a very diverse demographic in the band’s fan base.

“If we can bring everybody together under the Bumbu Sauce flag, we’ve accomplished a fair bit,” he said.

As for their upcoming assignments, Zakoota said that the members are already gearing up for some fresh projects and that the new songs will be ‘mind-melting stuff’ adding, that the “fans can expect nothing short of sheer Bumbuness.   After last year’s winter tour, our fans have been waiting very patiently for some shows. We’ve got invitations from Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Faisalabad. I’m sure we’ll add a few more cities and we are looking to tour straight through the country in the winter of 2011/2012. We want to layer this country in Bumbu Sauce, understand?  Aho!”
