Allam Iqbal – Relevant phenomenon for today’s Pakistan

The one who studies Allama Iqbal doesn’t remain ‘normal’ because you reach to the next level of imagination which a normal person can’t even think of. We are ignorant of such a majestic treasure in the form of Iqbal’s poetry. Why are we deprived of “Iqbaliat”?
Why isn’t he being the main course in our academic syllabuses? Who do kids just know of him only as the idea generator of Pakistan and not as a legendry poet? These questions will always remain unanswered.

Youngsters are seriously obsessed in speaking English and most of them don’t know Urdu properly because they are not being taught in Urdu and most of the young generation considers speaking Urdu an embarrassment. How can a person understand Iqbal’s writings
if he doesn’t know Urdu at all?

We witness the height of cultural and moral vandalism, and I am really disappointed and disheartened to see that the treasure of our national language is being buried under the burden of cultural imperialism. A gigantic imperialist flood has destroyed Urdu
and that has demolished our ideology as well.

If we study Iqbal we will know that what we are missing. We are missing a huge collection of some out of the world poetry that awakens a dead soul; pushes you to show some morality and respect and be human NOT a beast.

The knowledge that Iqbal endowed at his era is super-human for me as he submerged everything in his poetry that we are missing now-a-days. He speaks of unity, discipline, faith and his thought-provoking poetry has all the solutions to our ongoing problems.

We are not united, we have lost the respect for each other, we have lost the concept of humanity and more over our rulers have lost it completely and have completely felt for the lure of money and power instead of development and advancement.

Can Iqbal’s poetry be used as a guidance to revive our lost prestige?

The answer is a big ‘YES’. He was visionary and his poetry has answers to all our questions. It’s just the matter of introducing him to the youth of Pakistan at infant stages of education so that they know him and are aware of his writings. If we had adopted
him before and used his poetry in our syllabuses we would have been in a much better stage then we are now, for sure.

If all of us read one poem of Iqbal and understand it completely to the best of our knowledge and try to act upon it, we will definitely have an aim for life and we will understand our responsibility as an individual. Our country wants us, let’s leave behind
our personal wishes aside and work collectively to revive our nation’s pride.
