International Energy Agency warns against ‘irreversible’ climate changes

The International Energy Agency (IEA) has issued a warning that the world needs to react soon before an ‘irreversible’ climate change occurs.

According to a report from the IEA, there are only five more years left for the world to react otherwise things will be out of control.

The report also said that the carbon energy system has played a negative role in affecting the climate of the world and the world needs to come to an agreement over a substitute for such energy, which is harmful for the environment.

Fatih Birol, the IEA Chief Economist, stated, “If we do not have an international agreement whose effect is put in place by 2017, then the door will be closed forever. As each year passes without clear signals to drive investment in clean energy, the "lock-in"
of high-carbon infrastructure is making it harder and more expensive to meet our energy security and climate goals.”

These words were echoed by the IEA Executive Director Maria van der Hoeven. She said, “There is still time to act, but the window of opportunity is closing. Growth, prosperity and rising population will inevitably push up energy needs over the coming decades.
But we cannot continue to rely on insecure and environmentally unsustainable uses of energy.”

Earlier, the World Bank’s envoy for climate change Andrew Steer also predicted that the changes in climate will bring more floods and disasters to the world. He stressed that steps should be taken to make this world a better place for everyone.

Floods have really caused a lot of damage to the world in the past few years. The concerning thing is that the intensity and frequency of such disasters is increasing day by day.

Last year, hundreds of people died in severe floods in Pakistan. The same happened this year in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.

Apart from the deaths, millions of people were left homeless and had to struggle against hunger, poverty and disease.

If things continue like this, things will go out of control. It is high time for every country to react to this situation before it gets too late.
