A decision has been made recently by the action committee of the employees unions of Pakistan International Airlines. The decision has been taken in the context of the constant downfall that the national airlines of the country has been experiencing for
the past couple of years and the slackened response that the administration of the airlines has been giving to the situation.
The action committee has decided to go on a protest on the national level against the situation that the PIA finds itself in. The committee has not specified a duration for the protest and has asserted that it will go on for an indefinite period of time.
Shaukat Jamshed, who is the president of the Soceity of Aircraft Engineers, made the following statement while revealing about the strike: “We are going on a protest from November 18 for an indefinite period against faulty decisions of the PIA management.
We are compelled to launch the protest as monthly loss of PIA has gone up to Rs2 billion from Rs1 billion.”
While talking about the strike, Jamshed also mentioned the unions that are under agreement with the decision. These include Air League, Pakistan Airline Pilots Association, Unity Union, Pakistan International Airlines Corporation Employees and PIA CBA to
name a few. In short, all the unions of the employees of PIA find themselves in the decision of the strike against the national airlines of Pakistan.
Jamshed shed further light on the strike and how the action committee plans to have their demands met. The first phase of the strike will start from November 18th which will be on a nation wide level. However, the second phase will have to be
implemented in case the first phase fails to achieve its goals.
During the first phase, the more than 20,000 employees of PIA will not go on a complete strike but will instead show their resistance by holding demonstrations as well as sit-ins. However, these employees will become part of the strike in the second phase.
This will have an adverse and severe affect on the machinery of PIA as the employees form the backbone of the airlines.
