Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani says that scandals won’t derail Pakistani government

Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani has come out and said that his government will not lose any power and those targeting the government on purpose in the ongoing memogate scandal are setting themselves up for a massive disappointment.
He said that his government will make sure that they hold free and fair elections in 2013 when the Pakistan People’s Party government reaches the end of its current five year tenure.

Whilst addressing his party’s opponents in the National Assembly, the Pakistani Prime Minister was quite assertive in his remarks as he said that there is no threat to his party’s government and also assured the cabinet member’s
that everything was in tandem between the military leadership of Pakistan and the civilian government. He said,   “If there were in any threat to the government, we would have looked towards people of Pakistan rather than seeking help from outside.”

The Prime Minister responded to criticism by Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan as he said that the government is only accountable to the people of Pakistan and that the resignation of Pakistan’s ambassador to U.S Husain Haqqani was accepted
because his presence in his role as the ambassador would’ve made the inquiry in question unfair.

There has been massive pressure on the Pakistani government of late to defuse the tension between themselves and the military leadership of Pakistan as the memogate scandal revealed that some of the elements inside the Pakistani
government were afraid of a coup attempt from the military leaders of the country, something that would’ve been detrimental to U.S interests in the region along with the prospects of democracy in Pakistan.
