Over 40 years of services to Christianity acknowledged; Bishop’s title bestowed upon Rev Dr. Ishaq Mazhar Sandhu

Islamabad – December 9: While acknowledging over 40-years of dedicated services to the Christianity in Pakistan and the world abroad, which have culminated in conferring a Bishop’s title on Rev Dr. Ishaq Mazhar Sandhu, speakers
here at Islamabad Hotel regarded him as a true Pakistani and a great man of God.
They were addressing the consecration ceremony organized in honour of Rev. Dr. Sandhu, the Founder and President of The National Baptist Church of Pakistan, whose promotion from a Priest to Bishop is deemed timely.
The Bishop, as a torch bearer of love for humanity, is widely acknowledged and respected in Pakistan equally in Christian community and the followers of other faiths and religions. His efforts for the promotion of peace, humanity
and tranquility in Pakistan has played foundational role in earning respect for the minorities. Amid his dedication, devotion and commitment towards mitigating the vows of humans, he is known as a Good Samaritan.
“Bishop Dr. Ishaq Mazhar Sandhu is an inspiration to millions. His passion for the Gospel has bettered the lives of countless people. He is a dedicated family man, a tireless spokesman for the Gospel, a great Pakistani and a great
man of God”, said Raja Tridav Roy, Minister at large while sharing his words over the perseverance of the Bishop for brining betterment to the lives of marginalized people in Pakistan.
The Bishop’s life has been a tale of accomplishments. Presently, the 76-year-old servant of God is regarded not only the senior most Priest in Islamabad, but in the entire Pakistan. The list of initiatives the Bishop took for improving
the lives of powerless and voiceless people are numerous. Back in 1974, as soon as he did his graduation from the Gujranwala Theological Seminary, while realizing the foundational role education could play in giving voice to the marginalized sections of society,
he introduced the Holistic Development Approach and established formal education system from class 1-5.
Dr. Sandhu always advocated for gender equality, and firmly believed the fact that prosperity to the nation could only be brought if girls were to play their due role diligently. Moved by this thought, he went on to establish a
handicraft centre for girls at Labour Colony at the exact place where PIMS Hospital is situated today.
One of his major services to Christianity included initiating the process of acquiring land for the construction of churches in Islamabad from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) which includes the plots for construction of
Churches namely (i) United Presbyterian Church Islamabad F-7/4, (ii) Khatoon-e-Fatima Church F-8/4, (iii) St. Thomas Church of Pakistan G-7/2 and International Protestant Church G/5 Diplomatic Enclave.
Bishop Dr. Ishaq Mazhar Sandhu, who has served as Country Director for Samaritan’s Purse, USA for 5 years is presently the Chairman of Christian Media Association of Islamabad and the Senior Member of National Leadership Team of
Samaritan’s Purse for its ongoing project called “Operational Christmas Child”.
In his address Bishop Dr. Sandhu urged the Christian community to stay prayerful and loyal to the country and give their best to make Pakistan a place where people can live in peace, harmony and share their talents for the nation.
Bishop also committed himself for the promotion of interfaith harmony and peace in Pakistan.
At the ceremony people from all walks of live participated including representatives from different denominations, Bishops, diplomats, members of the Parliament, advisors, political figures, bureaucrats, journalists, civil society
representatives, local administration, friends and family.
