Gas load management problems – Oil and gas sector update Pakistan

LAHORE: It has been learnt from reliable sources that the Lahore High Court have asked the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) and the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) to explain the court of the law under which CNG loadshedding was being conducted.

All Pakistan Compressed Natural Gas Association has already filed a writ petition against loadshedding and Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shahid issued the orders for evaluation on Monday.

Representing the association, Barrister Usman Awan pleaded that the government had no justification to order loadshedding in the capital of Punjab. Raising the issue, he added that so many families dependant on the CNG businesses were facing a tough time
due to low income and financial damages. He requested the court to declare the action of three-days CNG loadshedding as completely illegal and unethical as it was against the fundamental rights of people of Pakistan.

The judge heard initial arguments and sought replies from respondents. Next hearing will be held on Dec 13 (today).

It was further revealed by association’s central chairman Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha that the government had committed and signed agreement with CNG sector for 12 months of continuous gas supply. He explained that CNG businesses have no other alternative business
to earn their income from and they are paying the heavy price for unjust policies from the federal government. Millions of people are facing transport problems for three consecutive days due to the CNG loadshedding, Abdullah Paracha said.

The Lahore High Court on Monday appointed a new local commission to go and visit an an allegedly demolished portion of a private company that is based in Walton area near DHA. Although the commissioner insisted no such violence was conducted,
the court thought otherwise and they sent the commission to verify the claim of the commissioner.

Commissioner Jawad Rafiq was of the view that no such activity had taken place and bulldozed structure was no part of company’s property. However, the institution’s counsel made an allegation that the commissioner was lying to the court, saying that the
court had issued a stay order against the property demolished by Local Development Authority (LDA).
