Maulana Fazlur Rehman pleads for lawful change

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F)’s Ameer, Maulana Fazlur Rehman has asked the opposition parties not to rely on judiciary or military for getting rid of the incumbent government rather adopt constitutional measures to bring a change.

“Without any doubt, the government has several weaknesses but using judiciary and military as tool against the rulers is totally unfair,” Maulana said while talking to media here Friday.

He stated that judiciary and military should not be dragged into the politics particularly for toppling the government. He was of the view that opposition parties could hold such moves by taking the masses on board.

He went on to say that the people also wanted to get rid of the present rulers. “What the masses are getting at present, only price-hike, un-employment, insecurity, load shedding, terrorism and poverty,” Maulana held.

He added that despite the bad governance of the government, political parties should not indulge in foul play and only political ground be used for any move against the rulers.

To a question, the JUI-F chief said that there was no harm in conducting the general elections by next year. He informed that he will meet PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif soon to discuss the matters regarding early elections and a strategy to meet the current
political crisis in the country.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the role of establishment in the country’s politics must be ended now. The politicians should also be careful and they must not cross their political limits, he added.

To a query regarding Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani’s coarse statements against the military, he said the premier knew that there were no chances of martial law in the country. However, Gilani was fighting the battle of nerves.

In his view, the extension to both army chief and the DG ISI was just a time pass tactic of the government. Much time has been passed now that is why the government is showing some bravery, the JUI-F chief observed.

He said that there was no harm if the Supreme Court investigates into the controversial memogate. “The Parliamentary Committee on national Security will do the job in its own way,” he added.
