Opinion: We Need Evolution not Revolution

It is a good sign to see how active the political parties have become in Pakistan and especially how politicians are slowly exercising restraint in blaming each other for the problems our society is facing at the moment.

There is no doubt that there very are in a depressing state of affairs, but the truth is, we always have been. Pakistan has a dark history of army takeovers, very long dictatorships in which the fundamental rights of the citizens ceased to exist, which eventually
have led us to our present condition.

The only true revolution in the history of our nation was that of former Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, who supported the common man to fight elections under the banner of his party, which was a huge success. But what happened?

It all ultimately ended with a military coup and Bhutto was hanged. The need of the moment is evolution, not revolution, because this country has already seen too much bloodshed, imprisonment and war.

We, as a nation, were successful in implementing the first proper democratic government back in 2008 and have fortunately seen four-years of it. One year remains of the current government, which could be leading to the first smooth transition of power to
either the same or another political party.

Political parties everywhere have the right to put forth their viewpoints and manifestos to the people, who will ultimately decide who is the right person to choose. Awareness is slowly increasing amongst the masses and eventually, our nation will be at-par
with the international level.

Pakistan has a lot to offer to the world in terms of talent, trade and resources but the only way we will be able to move forward is by supporting a true democratic setup and letting the governments establish the necessary bases for future leaders to build
upon.

The United States of America, which is a prime example of prolific evolution of government, is in its current state after 200 years of continuous democracy and rule of law.

We are just starting off and will see better days, that is if we have the patience to.
