Nawaz Sharif on contact spree to woo angry leaders

Realizing the loss of senior leader of the party, Javed Hashmi, the PML-N leadership has started a contact drive to redress the grievances of the party leaders and workers to pre-empt further defection.

At the start of the drive, PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif telephoned Syed Ghous Ali Shah, offering him party’s Sindh top slot in a bid to keep him with the party, a media outlet reported on Wednesday.

Nawaz Sharif, who is on a mission to keep his members associated with the party after a heavyweight, Javed Hashmi, parted ways with him a week ago. After failing in wooing party leader of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sir Anjam Khan, Nawaz
Sharif talked to Ghous Ali Shah (former party president Sindh) on telephone and promised him to remove his all grievances, the report added.

Earlier, Sir Anjam Khan staged a walk-out from the party meeting that was chaired by Nawaz Sharif, which increased the worries of party head.

The report added that Ghous Ali Shah had never been prepared to resign as party’s Sindh president. However, the PML-N chief had nominated him as senior central vice-president against his wish. "Shah was annoyed with the party chief
after this move," it added.

Nawaz Sharif was considering Elahi Bux Soomro and Former Governor Mamnoon Hussain to head party’s Sindh chapter while Aslam Raho, Salim Zia and Imdad Chandio were also lobbying for the top slot.

"After losing vice president of the party, the PML-N head cannot afford to lose other prominent figure of the party. The PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) is pulling the people mostly from PML-N and Nawaz is fully cognizant of its repercussions
before the general elections, the reported maintained.

The reports were coming out for last few days that Ghous Ali Shah was about to join the PTI along with some other names. Media reports added that Nawaz assured Ghous Ali Shah of meeting all his demands.

"The PML-N chief has indicated that Shah can be made party’s president in Sindh once again," they said. Although Nawaz is trying to convince Shah by any mean, it is not clear up till now that he will be succeeded in his mission or
not.
