A video game by the name of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 that not only broke last year’s record but set a new world record as well beating Avatar

2011 may not have been a great year for many, yet it did end with a bang, at least it did if you were a certain video game publisher by the name of Activision.

Activision is behind one of the most well known brands when it comes to digital entertainment and that is Call of Duty. The franchise continues to go from strength to strength and each title in the series has managed to outdo the previous one in terms of
sales.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 broke the record which stood during its time, only to see the next game, Call of Duty: Black Ops shatter its record. Yet, the biggest 5-day figure for sales has been set by the latest title as Modern Warfare 3 shattered all
previous records in the entertainment industry.

Raking up a staggering $775-million in its first five days following release, the game managed to break the previous record, which was held by Hollywood mega blockbuster, Avatar.

The game has been selling strongly in previous weeks as well, rarely falling out of the top two places in the respective sales charts in the United Kingdom and even managing to break into the Japanese software sale’s top ten, something that not many western
games tend to do.

Activision managed to out sell every other developer and publisher’s title in what was a hectic and fiercely competitive holiday period. Ubisoft had Assassin’s Creed: Revelations coming out around the same month, Sony and Naughty Dog had Uncharted 3: Drake’s
Deception, Bethesda had the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and EA had Battlefield 3 all of which were huge AAA franchises in the video game industry.

Despite all of that and a tough economic year, Modern Warfare 3 had copies flying off the shelves as if nothing else mattered and Activision became the envy of the business world as it managed to make millions when others were worried about staying afloat.
