The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a thriller drama film which is directed by David Fincher and produced by Scott Rudin. It was released on December 20th, 2011 and since then it has grossed $40, 811,000.

The $90 million budgeted movie, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, is adapted from Stieg Larsson’s Swedish-language novel of the same name by Steven Zailian. Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara are the lead characters and the soundtrack is given by Trent Reznor and
Atticus Ross.

The film follows a disgraced journalist, Mikael Blomkvist (Craig), as he investigates the disappearance of a wealthy patriarch’s niece from 40 years ago. Accompanied by tattooed computer hacker named Lisbeth Salander (Mara), he uncovers immense corruption
beyond anything they ever imagined.

The film’s ending differs from the ending of the novel, which the Swedish version retained. Harriet is alive in Australia and escaped with the help of Anita, who smuggled her out of Sweden.

The film has already grabbed three awards and it is nominated in several categories of many annually awards. Rooney Mara won the breakthrough performance in National Board of Review Awards. She also won best actress award at the St. Louis Gateway Film Critics
Association Awards.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo received critical acclaim amongst various publications and critics. Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes has reported that 86 percent of 180 critics have reviewed the film positively, with average rating of 7.6 out of 10. The
site’s general consensus states, “Brutal yet captivating, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is the result of David Fincher working at his lurid best with total role commitment from star Rooney Mara.”

In early 2010, Scott Rudin, the producer, began developing the project under Columbia Pictures, regardless of Paramount Pictures consideration of adaptation of the novel when it was published for the United States market in 2008. Shooting began in September
2010 and in May 2011, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer became a co-financier, putting up 20 percent of the film’s budget and getting some international TV rights.

This amazing adaptation should be on everyone’s radar and it’s a must watch for mystery-film lovers.
