New provinces fever grips parliament, media (Part One)

Hue and cry for new provinces is being heard everywhere, as the issue of Seraiki and Hazara provinces prevail in parliament, media and drawing rooms of the political pundits.

The situation has deteriorated to a point where political parties with the help of media playing are with the people on cards of new provinces.

All political groups had argued in the National Assembly’s session whether the debate on the MQM’s resolution on new provinces in parliament could be held or not.

Confusion prevailed during the debate as how and from where to initiate the matter. Once can just understand that ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is ambitious about the Seraiki province just to get more political sympathies in Southern Punjab.

However the holler of MQM is incomprehensible. Is it playing a game for the PPP or it has its own interests in creation of new provinces?

Political analysts say that MQM wants to get the sympathies of 0.8 million Hazara’s people living in Karachi. The party would be more powerful politically in the financial hub of the country if it succeeds to cheer the Hazaras by making a separate province
for them.

The party also needs some favour in Southern Punjab after it has opened party’s offices in the area recently.

On the other hand, the PML-N is reminding the PPP of the constitutional requirements for the formation of new province while ANP is not ready even to talk over the issue.

Continuing the arguments in favour of new province, MQM’s parliamentary leader in NA Farooq Sattar Friday said that formation of new provinces would help eliminate hates among the provinces and the people.

He said Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani had assured him of tabling the constitutional amendment bill in next session of the National Assembly, the lower house of parliament.

Dispelling the impression of formation of Jinnah Pur, Sattar said, “Reality is strong then rumours and the fact is that the MQM has bring the matter of new provinces in parliament”.

Another Muttahida leader Senator Babar Ghauri disclosed that their elders were offered to make Karachi a separate province but they had refused preferring to continue with Sindh.
