New provinces fever grips parliament, media (Part Two)

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), the second largest party in the country, expressed intentions in creation of new provinces but not on linguistic grounds.

Opposition leader in the National Assembly, Chaurdhry Nisar while speaking to the media said that both the MQM and the PPP were trying to divert attention away from real issues. He said the law could not be violated for the formation of new provinces.

The opposition leader added that Punjab would accept the new provinces and same was not sure about Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said it was important that the government should set up a commission with the suggestions of all the political parties to discuss the issues related to the creation of new provinces.

Nisar said the MQM was creating drama in the National Assembly over the formation of new provinces. “The MQM wants new provinces in the country but it is not ready to create one more district in the city of 15 million people Karachi,” he held.

Awami National Party (ANP) is one of the major stakeholders in the currently ruling lot but its intentions in creating separate provinces are not really positive. ANP spokesperson Senator Zahid Khan said the MQM was pawing way for Jinnah Pur using the platform
of Hazara and Seraiki provinces.

He asserted that according to the Constitution, no new province could be formed in the country without approval of the concern provincial assembly. “The MQM should move the provincial assemblies of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa first but it has no representation
over there,” Khan added.

The ANP leader was of the view that debate and resolution in the National Assembly about new provinces was against the constitution and the provincial autonomy. “ANP will not allow anyone to violate provincial autonomy,” he vowed.

In the meantime, the leaders and activists of Tehreek-e Soba Hazara (TSH) demonstrated a sit-in in front of Parliament House in the windy and stormy weather conditions. TSH Convener, Sardar Muhammad Yousaf, who led the protest demonstration, warned the government
that no other province in the country was possible until Hazara is formed.
