Chairman Efroze Chemicals says drug scandal is conspiracy

Karachi: (Wednesday, February 01, 2012) the chairman of Efroze Chemicals, the Pharmaceutical Company which produced the medicine suspected to cause deaths among cardiac patients in Lahore, has said that scandal is a mere conspiracy
against them.

The chairman claimed that the chemical under question was stolen from their store back in September.

Meanwhile, after thorough tests in a laboratory in London found out that the substandard medicine that was behind the deaths contained anti-malarial chemical 14 times more than the required amount, the pharmaceutical company was
sealed and according to the Chief Minister Punjab, names of the owners were placed into the Exit Control List.

While further investigation into the scandal are still going on, the apex court, taking a suo motu notice, has also sought a detailed report into the issue from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) by February 6.
