Tale of Two finest Australian cricketers: Part I

Ricky Ponting

Two well known Australian cricketers, Michael Hussey and Ricky Ponting, are undoubtedly heading towards the end of their illustrious careers, having finished a successful four-match test series with the Indian side. Both the top cricketers were in sensational
form throughout the series, and ensured India’s downfall with their outstanding display. Ponting amassed the second-highest 544 runs in the four-match series, forcing his critics to shut their mouth.

The former captain was in extreme pressure coming into the test series, but replied perfectly. Ponting scored two hundreds and three fifties during the series, which Australia won comfortably by a 4-0 margin. Ponting was severely criticised by the cricket
pundits before coming into the series as most of the former cricketers were calling for his replacement.

However, the 37-year-old proved his critics wrong by responding in the best possible manner. The former Aussie skipper also reached a landmark during the recently concluded test series by recording 13,000 test runs. In the midst of such outstanding form,
Ponting is definitely an asset to the Australian side, and a champion cricketer like him will leave a huge void if he decides to part ways with the Kangaroos.

Ponting made his ODI debut for Australia against South Africa in 1995, and so far has emerged in 370 ODI’s, scoring 13,686 runs during the process.  Since making his test debut in against Srilanka in 1995, the right-handed batsman has so far hammered 13,200
runs from 162 tests until now.

The Tasmanian born cricketer is undoubtedly the best in the business after the likes of Brain Lara, Inzamam-ul-Haq and Sachin Tendulkar. To say that a cricketer like Ponting should leave the scene now will be unfair to the veteran batsman, who did everything
to regain the lost support during the Indian series. Despite having performed to his level best during the test series, the former Somerset batsman will have another opportunity to prove himself when the Australian side will go into the tri-series involving
India and Srilanka.
