Fijji’s Grill Islamabad – Is there substance beneath the style? – Part 2

With the first impression, ambience, atmosphere and entertaining menu cards out of the way, it is now time to take a look at what really counts: the food.

To be honest, we were more than impressed by how our Fijji’s Grill experience was going but the real test was yet to come.

The Cajun Steak immediately caught my eye and set my mouth watering. However, i was disappointed with the overall choice on offer. The selection of cut was absent and all the steaks seemed to have either mushroom sauce or pepper sauce. There was of course
the BBQ steak and the, aforementioned, Cajun steak, yet everything else had pepper or mushroom sauce.

Usually, if one goes anywhere for steaks, they follow the following steps:

  1. Choose a cut (T-Bone, Sirloin, etc)
  2. Choose the temperature (rare, medium, medium-well, well)
  3. Choose the ‘sauce’ (BBQ, herb butter, Cajun spiced herb butter, pepper, mushroom, etc)
  4. The side order

To my disappointment the first option was replaced with the choice of ‘beef or chicken’.

However, when my medium Cajun steak arrived on the sizzler, i was pleasantly surprised by the generous portion of steak. The Cajun spicing was visible and a healthy dollop of herb butter rested on top of the steak, slowly seductively melting away.

I looked around at my friends’ plates and the beef burger looked inviting, the BBQ steak looked tempting and the salmon steak looked rather bland.

I will not describe my feelings while i wolfed down the steak, for fear of sounding ‘dirty’, but i can safely say that the Cajun Steak alone can keep Fijji’s in business indefinitely. It was simply superb. It may not have the same pure steak feel that Jason’s
Steak House provides but it can rival its Marriot competitor in terms of taste.

All in all, everything on the menu was more than decent, apart from the Salmon steak, and Fijji’s Grill is sure to be an option for many on weekends and lunches, but if you do go there then do yourself a favour and order a Cajun Steak and don’t ask for it
to be anything more than medium. You won’t regret it.
